whew! First week over and out - Glad thats out of the way. Apart from a little nausea, I'm feeling pretty good, thanks to all you wonderful people! Heres a little ditty to brighten your day...
I dreamt the other night of food I really loved
big meat pies, fish and chips, and all that yummy stuff
Alas, you're just a memory, as I munch my daily bread
free from gluten, free from taste, with tofu as a spread
Good bye Mr T-Bone steak, looks like we'll never be
culinary companions, you're just a distant memory.
Banana cakes and bikkies, sausage rolls and moro bars
you're safe from my indulgences, so we'll say au revoir.
Ive learnt to quaff the carrot juice, lemongrass and herbal tea
To mochas and iced coffee, I'll say 'get thee behind me'
Burger King, KFC and Big Macs are out the door
I'll have to go cold turkey when I pass these fast-food stores
Burnt snarlers on the barbie, plates of pancakes pav and cream
all these glorious smells and tastes I'll sample only in my dreams
No more pinots, speights or reds, or cokes of any kind
just organic apple juice, with some almonds on the side.
So as you sit down to your yummy, spicy, meaty, tasty dinner
Think of my steamed brocolli, and watch as I grow thinner
I know I'll gradually adapt, so bear with me my friend.
If it keeps me standing upright, it will be worth it in the end!
you are hilarious! makes me hungry just reading it...
ReplyDeletevery clever :)
Great little poem. Glad to hear the first week went well for you.
ReplyDeletemmm that makes my lunchtime salad sandwich even more tasty. Mind you it could be worse ... I read of a group of folks who survived on some doughy stuff called manna and a little piece of quail meat for Sunday roast. It kept them on their feet for 40 years ... so please invite us to your 103rd birthday in due course!
ReplyDeleteTis 6 short years in 4 months time, nearly to the day
ReplyDeleteSince Nev and I ate healthy food and threw the rest away.
"Our soil in New Zealand is very poor", they said
"if we don't get selenium we'll very soon be ........"
The remedy's not hard", they said
"to have a happy gut, just cut our bread and have instead
A yummy brazil nut!"
Three thousand salads down the track we realize you can't look back.
With no more grease to coat our teeth and ice-cream only in our dreams.
Then,"Fletcher's one! - Let's have a hui. so off we went to Pauanui.
Fay babysat, so Nev could chat to Murray on the deck.
To the beach Naomi went (her mind is only slightly bent)
Donned her togs-went with the kids, her mind on fun and sun.
This she did without an inkling that t'would emphasize her body wrinkling...
We all stayed on that lovely night and Murray was the chef
The steak sublime, the company fine -to conscience we were deaf.
Oh what a choice! Which chocolate sauce? We'll have them both we said.
And real ice-cream, that distant dream..........
Our stomachs swell to twice their size
We think ,"that wasn't very wise! But man is sure was VERY NICE!"
So Murray, all the best we say - our Prayers are with you all the way.
And while our hearts are tinged with sorrow
Hope burns brightly for tomorrow!
Xx Naomi

Hi Uncle,
ReplyDeleteWe hope that your 2nd week of treatment was successful. Thoughts and prayers spread between Chch family and you guys. Coral and I have done our first shop for the MMMM (Miracle for Muzza Month of March) and worked out some healthy dishes. The no caffeine might take a while to get used too! Love all of us. x x x
